We recently had the honor and privilege to work with PowerSecure on a very memorable day for one very special girl. Amber, a sweet high school freshman, was diagnosed with Stage 3 brain cancer last year. PowerSecure’s CEO Sidney Hinton, met Amber’s family in the hospital waiting room late last year and instantly determined that he wanted to help them, and the idea for Amber Day was born.
Amber Day was a surprise celebration for Amber and her family and we made sure that anything and everything Amber liked most was included in the festivities. Amber loves all things pink, so we decorated the tent with pink linens, pink balloons, and apothecary jars filled with pink and purple personalized M&M’s and gum balls. Pink cupcakes and a gelato bar provided by Sugarland were there as additional special sweet treats for the guests. We even had a pink carpet rolled out to give her that VIP treatment! Amber and her family arrived for her surprise party in a party bus accompanied by a police escort. When the bus pulled up, Amber’s high school drum line was there to greet her in style!
Inside the tent, more surprises awaited Amber. We had Amber’s entire high school chorus bussed from across the state to be there for her. It was so heart warming to see the smile that lit up Amber’s face when she saw all of her friends and family waiting to celebrate with her! Sidney Hinton gave a touching speech about how Amber and her family have affected the lives of so many others and he presented her with a coveted set of Taylor Swift front row tickets! But the surprises didn’t stop there. Amber’s chorus performed some special songs that they had prepared just for her and one of her classmates sang a song that he wrote in her honor. When Amber’s brother, also a student at her high school, came up to sing ‘You’ll Be in My Heart’ from Tarzan to his little sister, I don’t think there was a dry eye in the crowd. I’ll admit, all of the Southern Soiree girls were crying after this sweet moment between sister and brother.
After everyone had dried their eyes and hugged, guests were invited to enjoy a fabulous barbecue lunch provided by The Q Shack. Island Sound pumped fun tunes and all of the guests had a blast in the Shutterbooth. By the end of the afternoon, all of the kids were on stage dancing–we may have even witnessed a crowd surfer or two!
We are so thankful to be included in this heartfelt celebration and would also like to give a big thank you to Azul Photography for capturing these priceless moments!
